#FITfocus: SWEAT PRINCIPLE #6--TIMED NUTRITION #FAITHfocus LUKE 9:23 "Whoever wants to be my disciple, must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me." The very essence of honoring God is learning to deny ourselves what we want most in order to do what pleases God more. In so doing, we train ourselves to become His disciples, daily learning how to make choices that line up with His Truth. When we make the decision to take up our cross daily, we intentionally make sacrifices that lead us in the direction of God's Kingdom purposes for our lives and His Glory. Jesus knew what the cross was going to cost Him... And He chose to deny His flesh and take up the cross anyway. In the same way, making healthier lifestyle choices requires that we distance ourselves from habits that are not beneficial to us and compromise our ability to do Kingdom work. Timing your Nutrition so that you eat every 3-4 hours helps you practice self-discipline, learning how to deny yourself eating when you're not hungry because of boredom, stress or other circumstantial triggers. In addition it helps us understand that food is FUEL for the body and should only be consumed when energy is needed. Here are 3 basic guidelines to help you practice timing your Nutrition: 1. Know your Schedule. Consider what your schedule will be for each day, and determine WHEN you will eat. 2. Plan your Meals Accordingly. If you know you'll be out, plan where you will eat or pack a lunch/snack. 3. Set Boundaries for Interruptions. Determine at least 1 boundary for what you will NOT EAT should your schedule get interrupted or plans change. For example, no Fried Foods or eating a Salad if you're eating out. How do you plan on SWEATing this week to honor God with your body? What is the greatest challenge you face when practicing timing your nutrition?

"Be sober [well balanced and self-disciplined], be alert and cautious at all times. 1 Peter 5:8 One of the most challenging aspects of being healthy, no matter how much we know or how many resources we have, is the staying motivated to WANT to make those better choices. This is usually because we are RESULTS-oriented. So if we do not see the results we are working for, we lose our determination and decide it is not worth the extra time and energy. But if you can change your mindset to be REASON-oriented, then your motivation would be centered around a deeper force that drives you to keep making better choices, even when you aren't seeing results! And the ONE THING you need to be start becoming more REASON-oriented is... ACCOUNTABILITY! Accountability is more than just checking in with someone periodically to tell you how you are progressing... Accountability is about having a REASON to keep making progress, and being responsible for our choices. This week, pray about someone who can join you on your journey to help you become more accountable for your choices. This person should be someone who: *encourages you to be alert by reminding you of WHY you want to be healthier, especially when you are struggling; *equips you to be self-disciplined by being available to measure & evaluate your progress; and *empowers you to make better choices by celebrating your victories, no matter how small! Granted, God is your greatest Accountability partner, but He also created us for relationship to help build each other up! We'd love to have you join our online community for added accountability, tips & encouragement! #FITfocus: ACCOUNTABILITY | #FAITHfocus 1 Peter 5:8
DANIEL 2:23
I thank You and praise You, O God... You have given me wisdom and power... Lately, I have been struggling with some frustration, and it's amazing to me how God has very strategically provided me with different sources of wisdom to learn how to handle it in His strength and not my own. I don't want this to be a venting session for my frustrations, but I do want to encourage you today with 3 things God has spoken to me to help me handle my frustrations and learn to be Grateful, Wise & Powerful. #1. Name the Everyday Graces I am reading a devotional called One Thousand Gifts by Ann Voskamp, and it has been such a blessing to my soul each and every single day! The main idea is to take time every day to name the everyday graces God is setting before me...and when I do this, I maintain a grateful heart and peaceful mind because I am focused on His goodness and that brings Him glory! Today, write down as many things/moments as you can name that you are grateful for. and then repeat tomorrow... #2. Rest in His Truth One of my most recent goals was to wake up early every morning to have my alone time in prayer and reading God's Word. I started out well, but once schedules got crazier, I got more tired, and it has become harder and harder to get up. BUT one day as I tried to "catch up" mid-morning, I felt God say to me, "You will find more rest in waking up earlier to be with Me, than any extra amount of sleep can ever give you." And I cried--because it was such a powerful but tender Word and it was a reminder that He sees me and know what's best for me. Today, take time to READ and REST in God's Word. It is in this time that you store up knowledge that you will later need to apply wisdom to your decision-making. #3. Progress takes Practice Power is more than having strength... it is being able to apply any given strength with quickness and effectiveness. So, walking in God's power is the ability to tap into His strength at any given moment to accomplish His will and honor Him. In order for us to make progress in how we live for Christ, we must practice walking in His power-- consistently, moment by moment, day by day. Today, when you are faced with a difficult task or decision, practice praying for God's strength to empower you to overcome as He leads you and works though you. I would love to hear how God has taught you to handle frustration! Please share below! If you could do ONE thing that would guarantee that you reached your your goals EVERY SINGLE TIME, would you do it? I'm not talking about a magic pill that keeps you motivated or special 3-step plan that resolves all your excuses and makes the journey easy. The truth is that the journey is supposed to be hard--so that you lean on God and not yourself. HOWEVER, there is ONE thing that YOU can do to guarantee you will succeed in reaching your goals.. .and it is this: BE ACCOUNTABLE FOR GOALS YOU CAN CONTROL. First, take responsibly for your actions by being accountable to yourself, God and at least one other person whom you trust. Track your activity, pray often & use Scripture to empower you and invite one person to encourage you and keep you focused on your goal. Second, set goals that are within your power to control. You can't control how much weight you will lose each week, because honestly there are so many variables that alter our metabolism... But you can control how much you SWEAT (sleep, water intake, eat clean/exercise, be accountable and time your meals) each day. It may take some extra planning and preparation, but even when interruptions come, FOCUS on what is in your ability to be responsible for. When you focus on what you CAN control, then God will take care of those things that only He was intended to control! Share your journey with us! And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap a harvest, if we do not give up. It's been almost 16 months since I gave birth to my third baby--Baby Cade! And it has been the hardest baby weight to lose this third time around! My body has just not been responding to my efforts like it use to.. .and yes it can be discouraging--often! But that is why leaning on God's Word is sooooo important! Because when I line up my feelings with His Truth, I am encouraged to NOT GIVE UP! I am encouraged to keep doing what I know is right... what I know is good for my body... what I know is honoring to God... and at the right time, in God's perfect timing, I will reap a harvest--those RESULTS-- of all the work and obedience I've been sowing! But even as I wait expectantly for the PHYSICAL RESULTS, I am reaping a whole host of spiritual blessings! So when you aren't seeing results, focus on what you can control... SWEATING! getting your SLEEP & rest consistently... hydrating your body with WATER daily... making CLEANER choices with your food... making your EXERCISE a priority weekly... being ACCOUNTABLE to trusted friends & family... and TIMING your activity! And whatever challenges you are facing in your journey right now, be encouraged that God is with you and He will empower you to keep doing good and strengthen you so you do not grow weary that you will be fully equipped to receive the harvest He has prepared for you for His perfect plan! |

Do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit? You are not your own. You were bought with a price. Therefore, Honor God with your body. 1 Corinthians 6:19, 20 |
