THE BEFORE... I started the journey to my new lifestyle in January of 2013 when I was lucky enough to have Iris’ daughter in my Pre-K class at Goddard. After randomly asking Iris some advice on a healthy snack option, she came to me and asked if she could train me 3 times a week for a month before they went back to Texas. I had mixed feelings. I was excited, scared, motivated, nervous and pretty skeptical. I had been working with a trainer already for about 2 months and there was no change. I was actually gaining weight and when you weigh 202.2 lbs gaining weight is NOT what you want to see. We immediately started working out and every 3-4 days I was losing about 5 pounds at a time. In a week and a half I had dropped 12 lbs and I was beyond excited. ank You and praise You, O God... You I was born weighing 10 lbs. 10 oz, and I feel like my entire life I struggled with my weight. I was always overweight until I was about 16 when I became medically “obese.” I played softball and volleyball and threw shot put in track. After not making the softball team I stopped doing all sports. I continued with shot put because we didn’t have to run, we just had to be strong. I tried doing different diets in high school but they were always really short term because I never saw any weight loss. I just ignored my weight and continued living an unhealthy lifestyle. I actually think I was in denial at how much I weighed because I never stepped on a scale except at rare visits to the doctor. I never had any real medical concerns so I never thought it was that big of a deal.
I have come to realize there is never going to be a finish line. This is not a diet, it is a lifestyle change. I will never look in the mirror and say my journey is done because it will never be done. I will work towards goals every single day. Some days are tougher than others, sometimes I indulge in desserts and sometimes I skip a day to work out. I do my best to choose healthy foods and to give it my all when I do work out, but this is how I am living my life. This year I am signed up for (2) 10Ks, (2) 5Ks, my first triathlon and my first ½ marathon...
BUT I am not a runner. Your body can do things you would never believe. AND I am happy. I love the inspiration Iris has instilled in me. She has changed my life and I am forever grateful to her. She has brought God back into my life and turning to Him has helped me tremendously. I am not skeptical anymore. You get back exactly what you put in. KEEP ON KEEPIN’ ON…
