Our reading today was Matthew 16-18.
Once again, there were just so many tidbits that spoke to me. So, I'm going to share them with you and just a little insight why.
"Jesus replied, "Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by flesh and blood, but by my Father in heaven."
This verse reminded me that only God the Father can reveal Himself to us individually. Sometimes He uses others to do so, but it is never from another person's own power. So, my prayer is that God will daily reveal Himself to me and use me to reveal Himself to others.
"For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will find it."
Simply, life only has meaning when it is lived for the honor & glory of God. So, daily I want to lose my life--my own agendas, my own desires, my own ideas--and surrender them to God's purpose and will for my life.
"He replied, "Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.""
This one spoke to me the most...in another translation it said, "if you have enough faith...nothing would be impossible." So, I thought, how do I get enough faith? Well, the Bible says faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God (Romans 10:17). So, to increase my faith, I need to hear God's Word. I can do that by reading it out loud, listening to it on audio, going to church, listening to sermons online, going to Bible studies, and so much more! I thank God that we live in a country where we have numerous options to listen to the Word of God, and thereby many opportunities to increase our faith. And as I increase my faith, nothing will be impossible for me! That was encouraging to me today...I pray this truth encourages you too!
